Everything you need to know about The Bird Nesting Season!

All wild bird species, their eggs and nests are protected by law. To ensure there is no damage to active bird nests, there are laws regarding vegetation works during this period.

When is the Bird Nest Season?

Spring is often known as the beginning of the bird nesting season and with this comes a lot of preparation.  In the UK, Bird breeding season will ‘officially’ start from February until August (Natural England).

Vegetation works (tree or hedge cutting), or site clearance is advised to be done outside of the nesting season.

All wild birds are protected by law under the Wildlife and Countryside Act (WCA) 1981

It is highly recommended by Natural England that any arboricultural works are completed outside of the nesting season.

As tree surgeons’ contractors it is our responsibility to safeguard breeding birds from disturbance and seek to minimise tree pruning, felling and vegetation clearance during the season.

However, there are times when work is vital. In urgent circumstances, pre works surveys need to be carried out by competent personnel.

How can AJB TREE CARE help?

Before advising on arboricultural works, one of our experienced tree surveyors will inspect the site. We use thermal imaging equipment, a non-intrusive solution that allows us to identify heat sources in nests.

You will then receive our recommendations in a detailed tree safety and condition report.

If you have concerns about the health or safety of trees on your property, AJB team is here to help.  Call us on 01844 339 270 or email us on info@ajbtreecare.co.uk to speak with a member of our team.
